Outreach

The Federation of Gay Games adopted the following mission statement for its outreach programs on 8 January 2005:

The Federation of Gay Games' outreach mission is to distribute information and provide scholarship assistance that will bring participants to each Gay Games; along with these efforts, the FGG wil encourage continued development of the international gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender sports and cultural community.

The Federation has a number of programs designed to help those who are unable to attend the Games because of social, political or economic reasons. These programs are designed to enable them to attend and to increase involvement of those who have been under-represented at previous Games - based on sexuality, age, geography and socio-economic status.

These programs are also designed to compliment those of the host city for the Gay Games who also have their own Outreach programs.

For Gay Games VII, the Federation and Chicago organizers identified the following target groups for Outreach projects:

PrimeMovers 50+

For Gay Games VIII, 20 of the 32 sports had specific age categories and there were new age categories in several team sports. In addition, there were a number of low-impact sports suitable for the less active.

In addition to increasing participation in sports events, we also wanted the over-50s to be involved as spectators, volunteers, coaches, donors, as well as to enjoy the cultural program and the special atmosphere of the Gay Games.

South & Central America

Chicago Games International, the organizing body for Gay Games VII, focused on bringing LGBT participants from Central and South America to the Gay Games as previously they have been under-represented. This included assistance with travel and registration expenses as well as helping new LGBT sports teams to form.
